Leonardo London Heathrow Airport Club Lounge

Leonardo London Heathrow Airport

Ulster Carpets have completed work at the Leonardo London Heathrow Airport as part of a refurbishment project.

We worked alongside interior design practice, Cunningham McClean, to design and manufacture bespoke carpet that feature in Leonardo’s 230 guest rooms and the 11 meeting rooms that made the hotel so popular with business travellers and holiday makers.

The guest rooms feature different shades of mocha and plum that form part of bold symmetrical designs that coordinate perfectly together. The striped carpet design is contrasted by triangular wall patterns that both feature this same colour scheme.

For the meeting rooms, the symmetrical theme continues with a linear design but in a darker colour palette than the bedrooms that consists of varying grey green and charcoal shades.

Ulster’s carpet designs seamlessly match the distinctive style of the Leonardo brand while also meeting the added requirements of durability. Due to the hotel’s close proximity to Heathrow Airport, all the 230 guest rooms are soundproofed and this prerequisite for a quiet night’s sleep is further enhanced by the proven sound absorption qualities of Ulster’s wool-rich carpets.

Leonardo Hotels and Jurys Inn are both part of the Fattal Group and we’re delighted to be continuing to work with both brands. We have already designed and manufactured bespoke carpets for Leonardo Royal London Tower Bridge, Leonardo Royal London City and Leonardo Royal Southampton Grand Harbour while our strong relationship with Jurys Inn has been in place for over 20 years.

Marriott Prague Lobby Carpet

Prague Marriott Hotel, Czech Republic

Bespoke carpet and rugs from Ulster have helped enhance the warm and modern elegance of The Prague Marriott Hotel.

The hotel may be conveniently located on the edge of the Old Town but the interior design provides a perfect balance between the past and the present.

Ulster again worked closely with leading interior design practice, twenty2degrees, on this project. Our carpets and rugs feature in the guest rooms, public areas and corridors, with a consistent design theme providing a real sense of continuity.

Central to this are the strong geometric shapes and contemporary colour palette used throughout the hotel. Marriott red is used as an accent colour in the public areas and, in particular, in the statement design within the lobby.

This provides an impactful welcome for guests before the more distressed aspects take centre stage as the design transitions to more muted tones in the corridors and the guest rooms.

Matching the essence of the venue, we have been able to reflect the sense of flow created by twenty2degrees in our designs.

This attention to detail is an essential aspect of what Ulster delivers for the leading hotels, casinos and cruise ships across the world.

With experience of working on a wide range of projects, our talented designers utilise the design freedoms provided by our patented weaving technology to match any venue’s signature style.

By working in partnership we can meet any design brief and provide unrivalled levels of luxury and quality.

Hall U Need Lille Carpet

Hall U Need, Saint-André-Lez-Lille

Visitors to the impressive Hall U Need in Saint-André-Lez-Lille can take the right steps forward thanks to the functional carpet design by Ulster.

With a capacity of 1,650 people over 7000m2, Hall U Need is the second-largest indoor leisure complex in France and the largest in Hauts-de-France. It is also the largest restaurant-bar in the Lille metropolis.

Unique to Europe, this exciting indoor restaurant and leisure complex offers multiple activities to suit all tastes and ages. It includes a 500-seat restaurant, a 10-lane bowling alley, arcade games, a 600m2 children’s play area, a miniature car racing circuit, karaoke and much more.

With so much to do, our designers incorporated signage within the flooring that will help visitors find their way to the various activities. With clear colour codes and descriptions, all they need to do is quite literally follow the arrows.

Fittingly, this ultra-modern complex was once an old textile factory, meaning Ulster was the perfect flooring choice.

The decision was also helped by Ulster’s reputation for meeting the needs of entertainment venues. Our luxury bespoke carpets adorn some of the world’s finest ballrooms and, of course, they can also be found in the leading casinos across North America, including in Las Vegas.

As all these projects prove, Ulster’s ability to combine durability with design ensures our carpets can be both functional and visually stunning.

Claridges London Ballroom

Claridge’s

Every year since it opened in 1856, Claridge’s has continued to innovate and inspire. The latest refurbishment continues that tradition, with Ulster Carpets creating custom carpets and rugs to match the luxurious standards of this iconic hotel.

Set in the heart of Mayfair, Claridge’s is an English institution and an art deco landmark loved by movie stars and statesmen, fashion designers and global dignitaries.

Such is the stature of Claridge’s that any reimagining attracts the world’s best interior designers. Ulster has proudly worked on this beautiful hotel before and, on this occasion, our team collaborated with Pierre-Yves Rochon on the fifth and sixth-floor refurbishment and with Blair Associates on the new-look ballroom.

For the suites, differing designs were required to match each style and for this, we created both custom carpets and rugs. From the palatial royal heritage of the Empress Eugenie Suite to the contemporary comfort of Claridge’s King Room, our designers adapted each design to embody the timeless elegance of the hotel.

This has been matched in the corridors, where our bespoke carpets epitomise the sense of flow created by the design.

In the ballroom, the art deco heritage has been retained, and Ulster’s custom carpet design is central to this. Using patented weaving technology, our designers have added a three-dimensional element to a design that radiates the precise and boldly delineated geometric shapes of this style.

The richness of the designs in Ulster’s custom carpets and rugs pays homage to the luxury of Claridge’s. This level of luxury finish is achieved through an innovative manufacturing process that is based on over 80 years’ experience in weaving the highest quality carpets.

The combination of world-class designers and a patented weaving system also ensures that we can manufacture carpets to a greater degree of design intricacy, an enhanced spectrum of colour and at an unrivalled level of efficiency.

NYX HOTEL LONDON HOLBORN

Ulster Carpets have added to the vibrancy of NYX Hotel London Holborn – a beautiful lifestyle hotel in central London – with a collection of bespoke rugs and carpets.

The Holborn venue is the first NYX Hotel in the UK and it has set out to make its mark as a brand that brings a whole new level of accommodation to market.

Working alongside Suzanne Garuda of bespoke interior design practice, Garuda Design, Ulster Carpets designed and manufactured bespoke rugs and carpets to meet a specific design brief that had to find the perfect balance between the energetic style and relaxed luxury that NYX wanted to achieve.

The flowing designs found in the corridor carpets reflect just how effective a bespoke design can be. The rich shades of blue and grey are animated by rolling patterns of white and hints of gold that play with scale and transition to draw guests along the corridor.

In the guestrooms, the loose fitting rugs add a splash of colour and drama. Ulster matched the style of the different room options at NYX Hotel London Holborn by creating a mottled design that works effectively in two separate colour palettes.

The ability to create unique designs that match seamlessly with a brand’s DNA is one of the key strengths of Ulster and is why so many of the leading hotels, casinos and cruise ships feature the company’s bespoke carpets.

This level of excellence in design is matched by the strong relationships that have Ulster’s sales team have been built up with interior design firms, architectural studios, managers and owners across the world.

SYCUAN CASINO, SAN DIEGO

The vibrant colors and intricate design of the new Ulster carpets at the Sycuan Casino play an integral role in the design story created by HBG Design as part of an ambitious expansion.

Set dramatically within the rugged landscape of East San Diego County, the resort expansion offers new casino, dining and entertainment experiences designed to seamlessly weave contemporary upscale elements together with unique relatable branding.

We designed and manufactured bespoke flooring for multiple areas of the new facilities, including the casino, high limits area, ballroom/event center, the pre-function area and meeting rooms. We also created a series of matching rugs for the lobby area.

HBG Design are a Top 5 hospitality design firm in the USA and they are known for shaping physical space and connecting people to place. Ulster Carpets are renowned for their partnership approach and our team worked closely with HBG to ensure we could realise their interior design vision.

The result of this successful collaboration is a series of bold designs that match the unique branding of the Sycuan Casino and reflect the rugged mountain landscape in which it is located.

The kaleidoscope of colour in the casino is combined with flowing, organic patterns to create an impactful carpet design. Variations of this vibrant aesthetic are replicated in the lobby, pre-function areas and in the meeting rooms while key areas such as the high limits area and ballroom utilize the same colour bank but with a more structured design.

Ulster’s experience of the casino sector was key to the success of this project. As one of San Diego’s premier casino and resort destinations, Sycuan Casino required strong, defined designs that reflected the brand ethos of this award-winning venue.

While the impact of the carpet designs was central to meeting these requirements, durability and maintenance were also an integral reason for choosing Ulster. The combination of Axminster weaving and wool provides wide-ranging benefits in terms of durability, sustainability and longevity. This is further enhanced by Ulster’s patented weaving technology to provide a superior flooring solution that is second to none.

SAINT KATE THE ARTS HOTEL, MILWAUKEE

What better place to showcase The Art of Ulster than at a unique, boutique arts hotel created by artists for artists.

Located in the heart of a vibrant entertainment area in downtown Milwaukee, Saint Kate The Arts Hotel is a one-of-a-kind destination that is a platform for exploration, connection and expression.

With its own theatre and multiple gallery and exhibition spaces, you will find evocative art at every turn in Saint Kate. Now even the flooring has the artistic touch thanks to the beautifully bespoke carpet created by Ulster.

Like this venue, we value collaboration and the creative process. For this project, we worked alongside the venue and the imaginative team at Stonehill Taylor to design and manufacture custom carpet for the lobby, Simone Ballroom, seven meeting rooms and the prefunction areas.

The Art of Ulster refers to our concept of utilising that large canvas that flooring offers to create statement designs. With some of the best designers in the world, we can translate aspirational concepts into inspirational flooring that complements the interior design scheme.

At Saint Kate, this starts in the lobby where a distressed pattern of rich blues teamed with stone greys ties in perfectly with the contemporary surroundings. Across the rest of the hotel, the use of a common colour bank creates a sense of continuity.

In the impressive Simone Ballroom, additional layers have been added to the lobby design to maximise scale through the careful curation of sumptuous shapes. The Simone Ballroom can be separated into four separate rooms and this has also been seamlessly incorporated the carpet design.

The three-dimensional designs continue throughout the 11,600 square feet of meeting space. The transition of textures, with gently overlapping colours and patterns, effortlessly connect each area and create a sense of flow throughout the venue. This is offset by bolder patterns to match the distinctive aesthetic of the meeting rooms.

This is only possible because of Ulster’s patented weaving technology that gives our designers the freedom to create greater levels of depth and texture while also offering an unrivalled choice of colours.

Bespoke ballroom carpet

THE DRAKE, CHICAGO

Since it opened in the 1920s, The Drake in Chicago has never compromised on quality – an attribute shared with Ulster Carpets.

This legendary, historic hotel reportedly once refused to install ice machines until they could match the quality of handmade cubes. On the other hand, The Drake led the way in terms of luxury and opulence, being the first hotel in the city to install air conditioning and to have colour TVs in the guest rooms.

Decade after decade, those same high standards have been retained, with icons from Bing Crosby, Walt Disney and Princess Diana through to Queen Elizabeth II, Marilyn Monroe and Joe Dimaggio just some of iconic names who enjoyed The Drake.

To help retain that sense of history and inimitable style, we worked with Anderson/Miller, Ltd. (AML), to design and manufactured custom carpet for The Grand Ballroom, The French Room and the adjoining pre-function.

AML are renowned for the creation of an authentic experience, and this was integral in maintaining the sense of grandeur in this beautiful beaux-art hotel.

The 5,000+ square foot carpet in the Grand Ball room is another example of The Art of Ulster. The Grand Ballroom was built in the ‘Roaring Twenties’ at the height of The Charleston craze and the new wool-rich carpet will put a spring in your step.

The same richness of design can be found in The French Room, where the custom carpet had to match the ornate beauty of the wall mouldings, faux silk wall coverings and crystal chandeliers. Our designs for the pre-function areas are equally as impressive and add a sense of continuity to the overall interior style.

The bespoke carpet at The Drake illustrates the meticulous design capabilities of Ulster. The large scale artistry delivers a visual impact deserving of The Drake’s timeless elegance, yet a closer look unveils another layer of detailed intricacy.

This depth and texture is why The Art of Ulster can be found in beautiful spaces around the world. See more examples of this in our Project Gallery – View more of our projects at https://ulstercarpets.com/contract/projects/

GRAND OPERA HOUSE, BELFAST

The curtain has been raised on the impressive £12.2 million restoration and development of the iconic Grand Opera House in Belfast that features a range of bespoke carpets from Ulster.

Designed by the leading Victorian theatre architect Frank Matcham and opened on 23 December 1895, many of the world’s leading actors, singers, dancers and entertainers have appeared on its stage, including Charlie Chaplin, Sarah Bernhardt, Laurence Olivier, Vera Lynn, Luciano Pavarotti, Darcey Bussell and Laurel and Hardy.

While the next generation of stars will be treading the boards on this famous stage, theatre goers will be able to enjoy the luxurious finish of our custom carpets in the Auditorium, Grand Circle Bar Foyer and within the reimagined Matcham extension.

Central to the restoration of the Grand Opera House was the conservation of the building’s unique architectural characteristics and paintings and our carpets have been designed to maximise the beauty of these original features.

We collaborated with renowned designer Suzanne Garuda of Garuda Design to create a unique aesthetic that matched the grandeur and style of the Grand Opera House.

This approach is clear in the main auditorium, where the distinctive carpet design reflects the decorative features on the balconies and ceiling. The custom carpet across the rest of this beautiful building build on this sense of harmony to create continuity.

Changes in colour and design epitomise the sense of flow. Bold crimsons in the Grand Circle Bar foyer add a sense of drama while the stunning helical staircase is amplified by a contemporary interpretation of a traditional design.

These creative statements within the carpet design complement the timeless elegance that radiates throughout the Grand Opera House and reflect the meticulous attention to detail by our team.

With some of the world’s best designers, Ulster can translate design aspirations into reality. This is only possible because of our patented weaving technology that allows us to create flooring works of art with unprecedented depth, texture and colour.

Hotel ZaZa Austin

The professional ambiance of the meeting spaces at Hotel ZaZa Austin is beautifully offset by custom carpets designed and manufactured by Ulster Carpets.

Located in downtown Austin’s Warehouse District, this property combines urban sophistication with Texas style in the city’s pre-eminent luxury boutique hotel.

Ulster’s bespoke carpet designs are installed across 10,000 square feet of meeting, pre-function, and event space. We collaborated with Duncan & Miller Design, to create and manufacture a design that complemented Hotel ZaZa Austin’s luxury aesthetic and Lone Star State authenticity.

Demonstrating our ability to create layered, textural designs, the neutral colour palette and refined motifs perfectly complement the exposed brick, majestic windows and grand lighting at Hotel ZaZa Austin.

The final design also had to provide a consistent design aesthetic throughout the property. The hotel hosts events ranging from conferences to gala balls. The result is an effective design that works in harmony with its surroundings and resonates positively with guests.

Design is at the very heart of Ulster Carpets.  Our dynamic designers create solutions that are infused with your inspiration and perfectly integrate with your design vision.

As a result, the Art of Ulster can be found in hotels, casinos, and cruise liners throughout the world.
