The Story

Ulster Carpets have created a series of striking custom carpet designs that match the stunning revitalisation of Buxton Crescent Hotel & Spa.

Built in the 1780s by the 5th Duke of Devonshire and designed by John Carr of York, Buxton Crescent is one of the most architecturally significant buildings in England.

After years of decline, this important landmark has now been restored and becomes the first UK property for Ensana Hotels, one of Europe’s leading operators of health spas.

Think Curious was tasked with restoring the building’s Georgian style and it is this concept that features prominently across a variety of carpet designs created by Ulster.

COLLABORATIVE

The collaborative approach that is central to our success is evident in the continuity of design and colour throughout a building that is as architecturally distinctive on the inside as it is on the outside.

The staircase, corridors, library and drawing room, which feature the same sophisticated design in a varying colour palette, are the perfect example of how the rich texture of an Ulster carpet can work in harmony with distinctive architectural features.

That balance can also be found in the impactful design of the Blue Room. Here, the ornate painted ceiling and chandelier are accentuated by this luxurious flooring.

Playing with scale and transition, the floral aesthetic in the lounge areas continue the theme of bold designs. This theme is given a more modern twist in the Spa Café, which occupies a new floor above the original pools.

Finally, the 81 guestrooms and suites are steeped in history and continue the organic feel with a calming, understated design of earthy tones.

Ulster’s world-class designers love the challenge of creating a sense of drama that is befitting of such a grand hotel. The designs also took into consideration the crescent shape of the building, which helped the fitting process carried out by Van Page Flooring.
