At Rosapenna Hotel & Golf Resort, the surrounding Irish coastline provided the inspiration for an interior with a distinctive sense of place.
Working closely with GDC Interiors, we developed bespoke Axminster carpet to help bring their creative vision to life. The brief called for an interior that felt warm, sophisticated and relaxed, drawing on the colours, textures and character of Rosapenna’s coastal setting while respecting the hotel’s existing architecture.
“The design concept is inspired by the Irish coastal landscape of Rosapenna, drawing influence from the surrounding coastline, natural textures, muted tones, and sense of place. The intention was to create a warm, sophisticated and relaxed interior that feels authentic to its setting, while remaining respectful of the hotel’s inherent character and architectural style.
"Our aim is to create spaces that embody Rosapenna’s renowned hospitality and unique sense of place, encouraging guests to relax, linger, return and experience the hotel time and time again.”

Translating the landscape into carpet
Our role was to understand GDC Interiors’ design intent and translate it successfully into carpet.
The coastal landscape provided a rich starting point. Natural textures and muted tones informed the wider interior concept, creating an atmosphere closely connected to Rosapenna and its Donegal surroundings.
Working collaboratively with GDC Interiors, we considered how colour, pattern and scale could support that vision in bespoke Axminster. Each decision needed to work within the wider scheme rather than compete with it, maintaining the integrity of the designers’ original concept while making it work effectively as carpet.
Designed for the space
Carpet has a significant influence on how an interior is experienced. Across a large surface, subtle changes in colour, pattern and scale can alter the character and rhythm of a space.
At Rosapenna, the bespoke carpet contributes texture, warmth and visual interest while allowing the wider interior and its connection to the landscape to remain the focus.
The result feels specific to its setting rather than simply specified for it. It is an example of what can happen when carpet is considered as part of the design conversation, with creative ambition and carpet expertise working together from concept to finished floor.
