Shift Technician – Ulster Yarns
The Job Specifics
We have an exciting vacancy at Ulster Yarns, our Yarn Supply plant-based in Dewsbury for a Shift Technician. As a hands-on engineering based technician, you will be involved in the set-up, maintenance and repair of a range of textile machinery to ensure maximum production efficiency.
Job Purpose: To set up, maintain and repair a range of textile machinery to ensure maximum production efficiency.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- A hands-on practical engineering background working with mechanical production machinery & equipment
- Quick learner, able to understand how machines operate
- Ability to recognise, diagnose and correct faults on a range of machinery & equipment
- Technical competence to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
- Manual dexterity to carry out all maintenance activities
- Communication skills to convey SOPs, fault diagnoses and corrective actions to management, apprentices and colleagues
- Tenacity to work through problems to final completion and correction
- Composure to react in a positive manner in difficult / emergency breakdown scenarios
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Qualified / time-served apprenticeship, preferably in mechanical related background
- Experience working in the textiles industry, particularly with carding, spinning and finishing processes
- Experience working with pneumatic equipment
Other qualities:
- Flexibility to work a range of shift patterns
- Commitment and enthusiasm to develop within the textiles industry
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and repair machines in line with the planned and preventative maintenance schedule
- Ensure machine downtime is carefully monitored, managed and reduced as necessary
- Proactive and responsive to machine breakdowns to minimise impact on production
- Diagnose and resolve faults, machine emergencies or unplanned problems in a systematic and logical manner
- Problem solve one-off and recurring issues to implement effective corrective actions
- Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures for each machine
- Contribute to the development of planned and preventative maintenance schedules
- Completion of work records for all maintenance activities
- Identify, request and purchase a range of machine parts, fixtures and components
- Work as part of a project team on the installation of new machinery
- Supervise, train and develop apprentice technicians and other colleagues
- Report all safety and maintenance issues to the Manager
