Custom Designs for the Grande Dame

A look back at our work with Pierre-Yves Rochon on the Grand Hotel Kronenhof

Even after 175 years, Grand Hotel Kronenhof remains one of the most architecturally important hotels in the Alps.

Engadin’s Grande Dame is luxury class establishment that is located in the heart of the idyllic Engadin village of Pontresina, only six kilometres from St. Moritz.

We were honoured to again be working with Pierre-Yves Rochon on this project, designing and manufacturing bespoke runners for the corridors, a custom carpet for the bar and a distinctive rug for the reception area.

As you would expect, the attention to detail at Grand Hotel Kronenhof is second to none and, as a heritage protected building, Pierre-Yves Rochon has been sensitive to the rich cultural heritage of Grand Hotel Kronenhof.

This can be found in the use of colours throughout the restyling. Greys and blues dominate the colour palette throughout and we incorporated this into our design.

The traditional styling of the carpet runners in the corridors emphasise the charming characteristics of the hotel, with the nuance of the design and colours emphasising a timeless elegance.

A variation of this theme is found in the rug in the main lobby where the emphasis is bringing a stronger blue to the fore while, in the bar area, red is the prominent colour, offset by a central blue section.

While they are distinctly different, each design creates an archetypal style that fits perfectly within the unique setting of this natural paradise.

It showcases how our designers can capture the essence of a project to create carefully balanced elements that complement the overall aesthetic.
