The Story

Ulster has stepped back in time to recreate iconic designs for London’s BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir – popularly known as the ‘Neasden Temple’.

The various carpets designed and manufactured by Ulster around 25 years ago became famous following a visit by Princess Diana to the Temple and they have clearly stood the test of time at what is the largest Hindu Temple outside of India and one of Europe’s biggest Hindu temples.

The traditional craftsmanship, evident in Temple’s intricate carvings and examples of Haveli architecture, has been matched by striking carpet designs throughout the Temple, including in the corridors and main halls.

Replicating the complexity of the original carpet, the new designs feature highly intricate symmetrical patterns imbued with vivid colour. Vibrant and diverse, the meticulous designs feature richly decorated graphical elements that are inspired by Hindu art.

This careful curation of shape and colour highlights the high levels of detail that Ulster’s designers can create and how we are able to match the specific requirements set by clients. With up to 25 colours per design and almost unlimited possibilities on offer, Ulster’s carpets are manufactured to unprecedented depth and texture using our patented weaving technology, PSYLO™.

Our work at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is also a perfect example of how customers continue to return to Ulster project after project and highlights the strength of relationships with interior design firms, architectural studios, managers and owners across the world.
